Keep in mind charter tickets are not sold directly by the charter airline to the passengers, but by holiday companies, who have charted the flight. Some airlines you may have heard of who charter flights include, Miami Air, North American Airlines and Zoom Airlines.

Charter airlines usually carry passengers who have booked individually or as small groups to beach resorts, historic towns, or cities where a cruise ship is waiting for them. There are even special circumstances where an aircraft will be chartered by a single group like a company, a sports team, or the military.

Buyer beware

A charter flight usually comes with stricter penalties, including no refund on cancellations. Some airlines will appease this rule by allowing you to transfer your ticket to another person for a small penalty.
Although there can be some downsides to flying a chartered flight, the savings can be well worth it. Don’t commit to a purchasing your tickets until you’ve looked into alternate airlines and done your research. Look for the charter you choose to have a clean safety record and excellent customer satisfaction.
Also, charter flights operate on the notion they’ll sell everyone of their seats. And because the seats are so cheap, don’t expect first class comfort. The airlines operating the charter flights and the holiday companies who are initial purchasers of the seats on them, have built up quite the lousy reputation for financial instability.
Once in a blue moon holidays may be cancelled at short notice, and travelers left stranded following the collapse of an airline or a holiday company. But don’t let that scare you away from a great deal! Insurance and bond arrangements have been put in place to minimize the risk of you losing out financially.
